1- In immunocompromised patients :

  • Varicella Zoster virus (VZV) infections.
  • Herpes Simplex virus (HSV) infections.

2- In immunocompetent patients :

  • VZV infections.
  • Severe Zoster due to extension or progression of lesions.
  • Varicella in pregnant women whose rash occurs within 8 to 10 days before delivery.
  • Varicella in newborns, before any rash, when the mother had onset of varicella within 5 days before and 2 days after delivery.
  • Severe varicella in children under 1 year of age.
  • Complicated varicella, particularly varicella pneumonia.
  • HSV infections.
  • Severe first episode genital herpes.
  • Treatment of acute herpetic gingivostomatitis when functional discomfort makes oral intake impossible.
  • Treatment of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) infection.
  • Treatment of herpes simplex encephalitis.
