Prevention of herpes simplex virus infections in immunocompromised subjects.
In immunocompetent subjects:
Skin or mucosal infections :
- Treatment of severe cutaneous or mucosal herpetic infections (excluding neonatal herpes and severe herpetic infections in immunocompromised children) (generally primary infections), particularly genital herpes and acute herpetic gingivostomatitis.
- Due to its mode of action, acyclovir does not eradicate latent viruses. After treatment, the patient will therefore remain exposed to the same frequency of recurrences as before.
- Treatment of recurrent genital herpes.
- Prevention of herpes simplex virus infections in subjects with at least 6 recurrences per year.
Ophthalmological infections :
Prevention of recurrent HSV ocular infections :
- Epithelial keratitis after 3 recurrences per year or in case of known triggering factor.
- Stromal keratitis and kerato-uveitis after 2 recurrences per year.
- In case of eye surgery.
- Treatment of HSV keratitis and kerato-uveitis.
